KK- Misplayed Twice?
I lost twice with KK today and feel that I may have misplayed both hands.
Hand 1: 20-40 Lucky Chances. The game has literally just started 6 handed and I look down at my first hand and see the Cowboys. One off the button raises. I haven't played with him much but my limited read is that he's a little tricky. I three bet in the SB. Everyone else folds. Flop is A 9 6 different suits. I bet he calls. Turn is another A. I was kind of glad to see the second one. I bet he calls. River is a 4. I check. He bets. I reluctantly call. He shows the Ace and takes it down. Anyone fold at the end or play differntly on other streets? Hand 2: Same session later on. Full game. UTG raises. She could have 88-AA or AJ-AK. I 3 bet. Everyone folds. She 4-bets, someone at the table says "Aces", implying she would only 4-bet with Aces and based on what I've seen of her I think he's right. Additionally, shortly after she caps it she smiles and shows her cards to her neighbor. Yikes! Flop is Q high. She bets. I raise to see where I'm at (even though I'm fairly certain I know where I'm at) She flat calls. Turn is another small card. She checks. I bet-she calls. River is immaterial check-check. She turns over the Rockets. Anyone lose less on this given my read? |

Re: KK- Misplayed Twice?
Why would you "raise to see where [you're] at" in the second hand? Are you really going to fold to a three-bet, or on the turn... or river?
There's a problem if you really think there's a way to have lost less money or actually won in these situations. |

I think you played both fine.

Re: KK- Misplayed Twice?
Hand 1: you played fine until the river, where you need to value bet.
Hand 2: again, bet the river unless your read is so strong that you know that she won't cap preflop with anything but aces. But if that is true, why not just fold on the flop? My guess is that your read is kind of weak, which is why you need to bet the river. |

Re: KK- Misplayed Twice?
Hi EasyGoer,
Hand 1: Sadly, we lose the same amount. Hand 2: Well done on your accurate read! However, your play is less than desired. I do like your raise on the flop, which may stop her turn bet (and it did!), and get you a free river card to spike that king. But now you need to use it, otherwise, dump it on the flop. |

Re: KK- Misplayed Twice?
You did misplay these hands but not for the reason you think and you should stop playing 20-40 and drop down a level or 4. The only comfort you should have is that the girl with AA played her hand in Hand #2 worse than you.

Re: KK- Misplayed Twice?
hand one:
clear bet on the river. this is one of those "the-money-only-goes-in-on-the-river-if-you're-behind" hands, which means that if your hand is good, your opponent will probably never bet for you, but would have called with a lot of losing hands. also, if he's ahead, he will certainly bet the river. it is even more imperative that you bet if you feel comfortable folding to a raise. in the long run you lose a lot of money by checking here. hand two: there are some old ladies in my regular 10/20 game that I would fold KK to after a three-bet or cap preflop. If this lady is one of them, don't even see the flop. I do like the flop raise if she's weak-tight enough to just call and check the turn. I would have checked behind on the turn, not the river though. Keep in mind the queen on the flop is a horrendous card for you. Now she's almost certainly ahead. |
