A Cold Calling Machine
Actually, I am not, which may be why this hand seemed so odd. I am pretty sure preflop is the least of my issues though.
Table is pretty loose passive, but turning over a lot in the last couple of orbits. Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (10 handed) Preflop: Hero is CO with T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 raises, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, Hero calls, Button folds, SB calls, BB folds, UTG+1 calls. Flop: (13 SB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (6 players) SB checks, UTG+1 checks, UTG+2 bets, MP1 calls, MP3 raises, Hero calls, SB folds, UTG+1 folds, UTG+2 calls, MP1 calls. Turn: (10.50 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players) UTG+2 checks, MP1 checks, MP3 bets, Hero calls, UTG+2 folds, MP1 calls. Re: A Cold Calling Machine
Add calling station to the title...(no offense)
Come on man. If you have to coldcall pre-flop, RAISE THE FLOP! |

Re: A Cold Calling Machine
Not sure I understand your advice. I think that the mistake is not folding on the flop. How is top pair with an extremely marginal kicker going to play against a bet and a raise? Also, I am not sure what 3 betting would accomplish. I appreciate the criticism about the calling station - I just about vomited after this hand.

Re: A Cold Calling Machine
The coldcall preflop is probably a little loose.
You need to play this flop because the pot is big, you may have the best hand, and you have outs including a backdoor flush draw. You cannot call this down in a multiway pot with a vulnerable potential best hand. The flop call is excellent but only as part of a plan to raise a favorable turn. The 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] is unlikely to have helped your opponents and consequently your winning chances have greatly improved. Calling the turn is awful. You have to raise for value and to protect your extremely vulnerable hand. |

Re: A Cold Calling Machine
I've been trying to think of something to say, and it pretty much comes down to "what he said."

Results and Thanks
I appreciate the advice. I think I would play this differently next time based on the thinking that has been shared. I guess my hesitation was due to the fact that this really was a loose-passive table.
MP3 showed AA for a lowly rivered set . |

Re: A Cold Calling Machine
Yeah I wasn't clear, I'm still 3 betting because AK will always raise.

Yeah I wasn't clear, I'm still 3 betting because AK will always raise. [/ QUOTE ] That makes a lot of sense considering he cold-called preflop (I see this at PP 2/4 all the time). Good catch. I guess fundamentally I cold call hoping to flop a big draw. Top pair threw me for a loop. I suck. Back to micro. |

Re: A Cold Calling Machine
Pre-flop call seems way loose to me. I fold this especially for 2 bets, unless I have a read that at least one of the raiser with raise with total junk...
