New to the boards with a question about my home setup

Hello all,

I'm looking for opinions about my home game setup. After reading a post about some hick home game where $40 got you 40 chips and blinds were $2/$1 I started thinking, thats kinda how we play.

Our buy in is $10 with unlimited rebuys and we play .25/.50 blinds w/ denomitations of .25/.50/1.00 chips. So $10 dollars in .25 chips would equal 40 chips with 1 chip/ 2 chips blinds. Should the orginal buy in be more? I've lasted a couple of hours with crap cards and then can walk aways up $30 but there are some LAG in the game that buy back in after 3 or 4 orbits in a 6 or 7 handed table. Any Opinions?

if youre only starting with 10 dollars you should be playing MUCH lower limits. the original buy in should be more if you want to stay at 25/50. i would say move the buyin to 25 or 30 and you might be able to get away with 25/50. otherwise make it 10/25 or something?

Hmmm, thanks for the reply. Knowing my friends they would oppose this but do you think that If say I bought in w/ $30 I'd have any kind of advantage over the people buying in with only $10. A chip bully so to speak since they are already short stacked? I don't think anyone would oppose me buying in with that much.

In our home game the buyin in set at 100 x the big blind.
For us it is $100 for .50c/$1. This is set in stone. We
were having too many re-buys and it slowed the game down.
Also, be sure everyone buys in for the same amount. Nothing
more frustrating then buying in for $100, pushing all in and
the player to your left only bought in for $25 and calls.
If you win he only loses $25 and then rebuys. Been to games
that allow this and not a balanced game IMO

we play dealer's choice with mostly pot limit games (omaha, lowball) and stud games... at .25/.50 blinds (and .25 ante and .25 bring in for stud), people usually buy in for between $40 and $60... when we play .50/1.00 blinds (still .25 ante and .25 bring in for stud games), the buy-ins are around $80

i think your $10 buy-in is probably way too low for .25/.50 blinds

I don't think a $10 buy-in is too low for .25/.50 blinds... Party Poker has a .50/1.00 game that is $25 buy-in (same as if you did your .25/.50 with $12.50 max buy, so yours is in the ballpark). I say it's your game, set the stakes however you want. Or maybe see what your friends who are actually playing think. Maybe they don't want to invest $100 up front in a home game.

Thanks for the replies, tonight I'm going to bring up buying in bigger to my group and see what the opinion is. Since some of us in the group usually play 3 to 4 times a week I think some will cry poor but for us with nice paying jobs (for being 23) maybe it'll happen. the home games I play in are .10/.25 blinds, $20 max buy-in, and unlimited rebuys. It works very well until the stacks get passed around and after some rebuys there's $400 on a 6-handed table.

that is incorrect. party's game is a 25 dollar buy in and .25/.50 blinds and is already generally considered to be much too few chips to have. playing .25/.50 for 10 dollars is insane.
