Default A bad play i made

a loose, but pretty much under control except for one guy 15-30 game a couple nights ago this happens.

in BB with 8sTc with one caller and SB completes.

Flop: A 8 3 rainbow. UTG check i Bet both call

Turn: Ah still rainbow. Utg checks and he is tricky, i check not wanting to get raised, which is what would happen if he had an ace i pretty much know this guy good enough i feel he won't call at all, but might check raise with or without an ace, but most likely an ace. LP checks

River: 7d SB checks, i think for a second and figure that i'll just check/call cause i can't imagine they will call. Now the guy behind me bets i immediatly get ready to call but SB thinks for a long time and finally calls.

I'm confused on what to do because i am 90% certain the bettor has nothing and i can't put small blind on anything but maybe a better eight.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?
