Default What type of game do you like? Incredible night last night.

I have always felt that I do better in tighter games. Therefore, I sort the open .50/1 games on PP by pot size and pick one of the lower ones. I did the same last night, but the table turned loose quickly. I was able to catch some cards and won 62 BB's in an hour. There was 1 player capping the betting on an inside straight draw...incredible, especially since I had a made straight at that point (the nut straight at that).

Anyway, since then I have wondered if I've been playing the wrong tables. I guess it was great last night because when I did play, I got cards and got paid off. I would be interested in hearing others strategy in table picking.

Tight games bad.

Loose games good.

Suckouts good.

"Respect my raises" bad.

Congratulations on finding a good game. You have been playing the wrong tables. Amend your table selection criteria: right now it's a nice way to ensure you never beat the rake.

Congrats on the results! I agree with the previous poster, loose games good, tight games bad, pound the fish with the good hands and smile when they beat your AA's with their 73x flopped two pair. You will get them in the end!

Simply put:

When your opponents make mistakes, you win money.

Tight players make fewer mistakes.

I sought tighter tables because I felt better losing to a better hand or I could at least make better judgments on hand values (sigh)..sometimes experience is the only teacher.

Bring on the loose purse strings

I think just joining the waiting list and going to whatever random table it plops you on is the best strategy.

Unless your goal is to play 0.5/1.00 or 1/2 forever, learning how to read a table and adjust to its play is a skill as important as any other. If your game relies overly on weak (or tight) tables, you'll have a hole in your game that's harder to patch later after your style is more set.

That's a good point. Right now I'm leaning toward getting some money in the bankroll.
