Default Easy fold?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (9 handed)

UTG+1 ($7.50)
MP1 ($25.45)
MP2 ($9.40)
MP3 ($42.27)
Hero ($25)
Button ($33.80)
SB ($28.20)
BB ($28.43)
UTG ($49.17)

Preflop: Hero is CO with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Hero posts a blind of $0.50.
UTG calls $0.50, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, MP3 folds, Hero (poster) checks, Button calls $0.50, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($2.50) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG bets $3, Hero ????

My first hand at this table and I posted a blind in the CO. I would have bet the size of the pot if it had been checked to me. I considered raising w/ my top pair, 8 kicker, but I have no reads and someone could easily limp with a higher kicker ace from EP. Routine fold, right?

Yes. It's not worth the outlay to pick up this pot at only 1:1.

yep, me too. i have really been sucking lately, i am not playing at all today and just going to school/studying my play. i lost about 200 of my 1100 dollar bankroll when i moved up to 50nl. i played a lot of small pairs too hard and didnt worry about kickers enough. i just stopped playing my game and started playing some horrid game. i probably would have called that 3 dollars, now i know i shouldnt.

Everyone seems to think this is an easy fold but can someone give me a better explantion. UTG is essentially firing a bet into 3 blinds. If I had any PP I would bet, heck if I were UTG I would do this with almost any hand if it were checked to me. I think you are giving UTG too much credit here? What is he limping with, maybe 22-99, KQ, AJo, and mabye Axs. so as far as I can tell he'll raise most other hands that beat you and unless he limped with exactly AJo or A9s, I like my A8 a whole lot. Of course he could have a set but trust me if he flat calls my flop raise or reraises my warning bells are going off and I doubt he get's much more out of me and anyway most bozo's now days will check a set here.

Someone tell me why I'm wrong, because it seems like this is a pretty clear raise and everyone seems to think it's a pretty clear fold.

You would flat call here...that is bad bad bad. You're setting yourself up to payoff or get bluffed off your hand by flat calling. Raise or fold in my opinion and I still don't know why everyone is saying fold.
