Default Isle of Capri in Bettendorf, Iowa (Quad Cities)

On a business trip, decided to leave the online games for a night and make a trip to Isle of Capri in Bettendorf, Iowa, part of the Quad Cities.

Monday night, they were able to spread two 3/6 games with a full kill. The dealers were friendly, though there were some mistakes -- including one dealer about to split a pot between two players with a King with two cowboys on the board, failing to note that one of managed to make a full house. For the most part, fast and accurate.

The felt on the tables is as worn as the oblique sides of the cards, but the chairs are comfortable.

More important the air is clean up there. You enter the "riverboat" hall and proceed upstairs to the room. It is well separated from the rest of the casino and very quiet.

Play tended to the loose passive side, but there were times where the fluctuations went tight or aggressive.

The rake, however, tops out at $5 and they take a $1 drop for a bad beat jackpot. Yikes.

In three hours, highest pocket pair I saw was 7s, and highest Ace hand I had was ATo. Finished down 8BB.

Hi StevieG,

The Isle of capri in Bettendorf is my home cardroom even though I live in Indianapolis. Your observations are right on. I also say it is the friendliest cardroom around.

As to your results: you probably were playing to tight for this cardroom. Loosen up in the later positions and value bet as often as you can. These players can be manipulated with semi-bluffs and good selective aggression. I've taken thousands of dollars out of this cardroom and always have had a great time there. Just my two cents - I don't know your play, but I do know quite well how poker is played in this cardroom and the adjustments that need to be made are not easy for many 2+2ers.

Hard to argue that -- I mentioned it in my TR from IofC last weekend Friday.

Everyone was just so pleasant.

Way to go, IofC regulars.

Let's reply backwards:

That may be. My take is that, with such a small sample, I can't tell if I would have to make adjustements for that room or not. Considering the cards I saw over that 3 hour window, and the rake, that loss is causing me to shrug my shoulders a lot more than shake my head.

Now this I can believe without hesitation. The place had a definite "everybody knows your name" feel to it.

If I were back in the area, I might be tempted despite the rake, in part because of that nice vibe.
