i just couldn't see someone in the US playing full-time for income claiming that they didn't owe any taxes because they were playing on coral. i doubt the IRS would take too kindly to that logic.

Yes. It has to do with a decision made by the EU-court regarding a case from Åland, the so called Lindman-case. The outcome of that decision means that the income made from any gambling games (pool, bridge etc. doesn NOT count as gambling games) derived from sites located within the EU is tax free. Very nice.
