It is. You're right. Players at live 2/4 are much worse than at Party 2/4.

Two years ago, when Paradise was the biggest internet poker site, lots of people saying the same thing about them. You got this post wrong. You're supposed to tell us that you are a long time winning player in home games and casinos.

The best hand preflop doesn't always win, on Party, Pokerstars,Paradise, or in live games. You're playing holdem, not 2 card poker. Get used to it.

Jeez, you got lucky and got off easy. The responses here today were the longest bout of prolonged kindness I think I've ever seen on this forum heheheh.

Seriously, it's been a long time between November 2003 and today. It is surprising you're just making this post now; it's usually one of the first posts anyone ever makes on the first day they register. You must have had a lot of downtime or something to just now starting feeling this way about Party and just now writing about it.

It's natural to feel that way, don't worry, but...it's a wrong outlook.

Do yourself a favor and look at the books and software forum for book recommendations. Any beginning player should read an introductory book like Internet Holdem by Matt Hilger or Winning Low Limit Hold'em by Lee Jones. Really study it hard, then get either Theory of Poker by Sklansky or Small Stakes Hold'em by Ed Miller next. If you do TOP 2nd, then don't forget SSH because it is a fantastic book.

Also, do a search for the favorite threads on 2+2 thread ...hmm lemme do it for you.... http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...14&fpart=1

Take these resources very seriously. Not only is poker a rough game, as you well know, but...other people take it seriously. If you don't, you could get in a world of hurt.

Good luck to you.

Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Really GOT, I love your posts. I think you are extremely intelligent, witty, and most likely very good looking, with a virle, masculine fragrance that has just a hint of that clouded mystery that the ladies find so enticing. But in this case, you are the pot calling the kettle black.

Its not that party poker is unrealistic, its that you are ill equiped. Check this out. And dont worry about everyone else, they just dont want the tools to spread.

Are pattern maps still usable? Not that I would be worried about my 1/2 opponents using them, it just seems that by now major online sites should have been able to revise their RNG techniques to foil this.

Any ideas?

I'm going to try and help. Here's my suggestions:

1. Buy Pokertracker. It is worth every penny. If you had it you would see that your premium hands do in fact win more often, no matter how often you think your AA and KK lose. They are the best hands and win more often than any others. This will let you find your leaks.

2. Big leak #1 for me was playing too many hands. If your VPIP is over 23% then you are playing too many hands. I really think that's the upper limit of even remotely reasonable play.

3. Big leak #2 for me was playing big off suited cards too often KJ, KT, QJ, QT and JT (QJ in particular was killing me). I now play them 2 or 3 off the button in unraised pots. If I'm the first one in, I'll sometimes raise particularly on the button. I would often cold call with these hands which I now never do.

4. Big leak #4 for me was cold calling w/ AQ, AJ, KQ suited and unsuited way too often. I now do this in late position when there are other cold callers ahead of me and where I can expect 4 or 5 people to enter the pot. I'm looking mostly for big flops, flushes, straights, 2 pair, or trips. I play a pair very cautiously.

All in all lowering the early position limps w/ marginal hands and lowering the amount of cold calling has dropped my VPIP from about 21.5% to 19% which I think is a solid number and my preflop raising has gone from 5% to 7%.

I feel much better about my game recently and have managed to move up from 2/4 to 3/6 pretty successfully. I think 3/6 is noticably tougher on party than 2/4. If you look at tables you'll see that there are usually 5 to 7 tables w/ $45 average pots while there are many many more 2/4 tables w/ average pots of $30 and up. Pokertracker tells me that there are more good or at least reasonable players at 3/6 than 2/4. Most of the time if I get someone w/ a pokertracker note export at one of my tables his vpip is 17 to 23 and pfr is 5 to 9 which means he's at least reasonable and not a bad player. My goal right now is mostly to avoid the people I think are good players rather than neccessarily finding fish.

Oh and if you have pokertraker you'll see that things do even out even at what seems like a very suspicious party poker. It's just randomness. Good luck.
