Five Stud or Hold\'em?
I have the chance to play either 5stud no ante just the bring in as opposed to Hold'em and its two blinds which game should I choose assuming (as I believe myself to be) equal proficiency (however poor) at each? I can afford each game within my bankroll. Supposing table conditions (loose/tight, aggressive/passive) are the same. What game is would give me the better earn? My game choice depends upon your answers. I will cross post this in the Stud and Texas Hold'em forums.

Re: Five Stud or Hold\'em?
It depends on who you are playing with. I think there are a lot more people who are familiar with ho wto play hold'em relatively well, but there are still plenty of fish as well. Most 5-stud games you play in will likely be a rock garden, but if you happen to find a game with some very poor players I'm sure it could be quite profitable.

Re: Five Stud or Hold\'em?
Limit 5-stud against bad loose players is the pure nuts. You should never lose. The current "nuts" is out fairly often and "plenty good" is out often; and unlike Omahaha rarely gets outdrawn. Play tight and bet-em when you've got-em.
Limit 5-stud in a rock garden is also fairly good; bluff often when you have the top card; and don't call when THEY bet. - Louie |

Re: Five Stud or Hold\'em?
Both studs and holdem are very bad when there are too many loose players; pot-limit omaha and no-limit holdem would be the best. If it's full ring limit holdem then 5-stud must be better, but if it's shorthanded limit holdem, then it's OK but need better skills, limit 5-stud being the easier game, while if there's no action preflop because of the low cost, or might be then more action too, blaa.

Where the heck do you even play 5-stud? I thought that game died decades ago.

However, it is still beatable and there are lots of fish in the games. I play at www.gamingclubpoker.com which has Limit (25c/50c upwards) and pot limit and no limit Five Card Stud as well as HE, 7stud and Omaha. The limit, pot limit and no limit formats are available for all games. Gaming Club Poker is part of the Prima Poker network. What I am getting at is Gaming Club Poker is a respectable site though there are smaller ones out there playing 5stud for whom I cannot vouch. I mainly play the 25c/50c 5stud which is no ante with a low card bring-in and eight-handed. |

Re: Five Stud or Hold\'em?
The only place I've seen is paradise and gaming club poker. I've never tried it, is there a good resource on it or is it as simple as I'm thinking it is?

Re: Blarg
Wow, pot limit and no limit on stud games? Jeez now that's something different. That sounds pretty interesting really.
Thanks for the info. |
