How much worse does this make the hand, I had (A,A)7 with all my 7's live, but both aces dead. Does it turn it in to a marginal hand even if you can get it heads up or are you looking to turn it to two pair more than trips most of the time? Just curious if it is worth going to the felt with when only have 5 BB's left close to the bubble?

I haven't played many tournaments, but even if your aces are dead you have a good hand. Usually with split or concealed aces, you will more often than not make top 2 pair, trips aren't as likely. 2 pair are usually enough to take down the pot, especially now that you beat any 2 pair. Even with trips, you lose to a straight or a flush. THe only drawback to this is you will lose to trips made by another person. I'd play this very strong, but be ready to dump it if there are a lot of people in the pot who pair their board and their door card and suddenly start raising.
You wanna limit the field on 3rd and hope your aces or Aces up hold up. Hopefully im right. |

I would say that this is more a touranment question than a stud question. Aces with both Aces out is still a pretty solid starting hand, unless you're against six opponents or something. Since people usually play somewhat sensibly in tournaments, it's probably as good an all-in hand as any.

it makes your hand a lot worse. whether to play or not depends on many factors but i wouldnt want to play this strongly if i couldnt get it heds up and hope bare aces might win.

It depends on how the hand will likely be played and what your going to have to beat. A's up can win a handsome pot from a hand like K's up with duplicated cards out.
However if you dont develop a good redraw in a hurry you might find yourself mucking on 5th in a multi way pot against even mildly scary boards. Obviously you side cards are much more important so keep a wary eye on them. Just my few cents timmer |
