Re: Do Dealers make a fortune?
The dealers at the Harrah's in New Orleans are the best tipped in the 30+ poker rooms that I have played in. And many of them do not deserve it. It is just the culture in the poker room. The players try to inflate their egos by out-tipping the next guy. Maybe these players are compensating for their weak poker skills?

Re: Do Dealers make a fortune?
[ QUOTE ]
Interesting. At our favorite local card barn in NYC the game of choice tends to be Baby NL (1-2 blinds, $250 max buyin) tournaments, or high-limit rotation. The rotation games are mostly seniors and serious plays, and the tipping is shite(the dealer seems to be lucky if they get one at all). The NL games are a different animal alltogether, the average dealer toke is $1, but most people who win big pots tips $3-$10. For example my last big score was nearly $400, I left $10 behind for the dealer. Factor in the wasted time dealing tournaments (a must to get in the shear numbers of players, they have had have 10+ tables rockin, the biggest in NYC), the horrible hours (open at 7PM for the mostpart, or 12 hour shifts on the weekends), and the mob-like goomba mentality of some of the younger players who come in (and one or two of the older serial killer types) and you have a job I would NOT want to take! Imagine being surrounded all day long by your favorite game, and you cannot play! What a horrible way to live. The moral of this story - Tip your dealers well! TT in da club [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] sounds like your talking about players club?? |

A prop makes an hourly wage from the casino for "keeping the game going".

He's my buddy. He didn't even know who you were until he asked me. And you know how he asked me? By making fun of any Tunica dealer claiming they were beating the 20-40

Re: Do Dealers make a fortune?
Hey Matt, Did I miss something in the transalation? Did I make fun of dealers beating 20-40 in Tunica? Hell I'm lost.
Oh by the way, remember Todd Tucker? Beat the 20-40 regularly. The 20-40 game in Tunica is one of the most interesting games I have seen. Plays looser than 2-4 often, but with players also thinking they can all "put a move on", all at the same time on the same hand!! At other times you see these same goofballs laying down a huge hand to a huge pot to a single bet. I select my moments to play this game. I dont have the proper BR for it. I do beat it 70% of the time. I dont try to kick the beeswax out of it. And I refuse to get buried more than 20 BB. This can be a problem because that can go real fast in that game when it goes nutso all of the sudden. But for example 2 days ago I took 400 off the table. Unfortunately the moment I sat down the main reason left the game. He had only lost 2500 in less than 20 minutes. If I would describe myself in poker/dealer terms it would be: "Pretty good dealer, for a player. hehe... Hey Matt when you comin back thru? |

Re: Do Dealers make a fortune?
let me give this one a shot. If the casino raised the dealers base pay to a higher flat rate and took away the players ability to tip what would the incentive be for the dealer to get any better at his job? The better the dealer the way things are now (hands per hour, job knowledge, friendliness ect.) the more tips they make. So tips can be looked at as an incentive for being not just a good dealer but a great dealer. What kind of dealer do you want at your table when your playing? Pay a dealer a flat rate and take away his tips. See what kind of dealer you end up with in 5 years.
