Default Half Kill Pots

I regularly play in a $10-$20 hold em game with a 1/2 kill to 15-30. The question I have is out of the big blind, is it wrong to fold a total garbage hand for the extra $5. I've been playing tons of hands out of it. Any two suited, any connected cards in large pots and weak aces and kings - if its a shorthanded pot, but folding total trash like 72 and J2. Anyway, I got into a discussion with a couple buddies about this, because they have seen me fold a few times when the pot was large. We got into the matter of flopping trips, a hand where, for the most part, you will win. What are the odds of flopping trips and having them hold up with total trash (e.g. 72)? Is it worth that $5 to see a flop with a garbage hand in hopes of flopping something?

Thanks

Read the preflop in the blinds section of HEPFAP. They recommend any two if you only have to call 1/3 of a bet.

What about the number of opponents? I would think that would have to make some sort of difference, since you can hit an still lose.

I dunno. Personally, I think that any two is too loose but who am I to argue with S&M? The idea is that you can play very loose. If you want to tweak your range of hands based on number of opponents and their tendancies that's up to you. I suggest that you pose your question in one of the strategy forums for more/better responses.
