Default 100-200 Live Hand

Local club game, full table:

Game has been very loose aggressive with about 3 whales/4 egos/and 2 guys who zero clue what they are doing. Including myself, only 4 solid players. I've been in the game for about 2 hours and have some stable reads on the players.

Not a difficult hand to play per say but just wondering if I did indeed play it right maxing out the pot.

I am on the button with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. UTG (LAG whale 1) raises, fold to MP (solid player 1) who re-raises. Folded to me and I cap it. Both blinds fold, UTG and MP both call.

Flop comes 2-3-4 suits don't matter.

UTG bets, MP calls, I raise. UTG calls, MP calls.

At this point I'm putting both players on pocket pairs. MP likely has KK, QQ, JJ, TT. He is a very good player and knows I have an overpair as well. He's very observant. I have no clue what the whale has, but he has been raising with a variety of hands, but seems to play somewhat decent postflop though his pre-flop selection is horrible.

Turn brings a 8 of a 4th suit. UTG checks, MP now bets. I raise. UTG check-raises 3 bets. MP thinks hard and folds. I go into tank mode. If he flopped a set, he would have check called the flop, check-raise the turn. He could have 88, but that chance was small. He loved raising pre-flop with uncoordinated suited like 9-4 or 10-2, but with co-ordinated cards like 3-4 suitde or small pocket pairs I did not see him raise much with EP. He did semi bluff a lot (maybe hitting a pair with a straight/flush draw) and would raise the hell out of it. He also re-raised a lot when he did have overpairs. I saw also check 3 bet re-raise with KK on a 9-8-7 board that was 3 suited and his king wasn't even one of the suit!!

So I just call.

River pairs the 8. Now his chances of having pocket eights are even smaller.

Again he bets out, now I raise. (Good raise?)

Results to follow.

As it seems you have a pretty good read on the guy, I think it's a pretty good play. I would think he has an overpair and is overplaying it. The only thing you might look out for is A5 or some garbage like 84s (which you said he'd raise with preflop). I really like the MP's play on the turn; betting into you to find out where everybody is and finding out he's drawing close to dead with his TT or whatever. He got out cheaply with a nice sucker hand. The river is mildly scary because he could have something like 85s, but I think that's pretty doubtful. Throw in a raise and see what happens.

Like I said, the most obvious answer is that he has 85s and you're beat. You should've folded on every street. I think he played his hand brilliantly.
