Re: Do CENTS matter?
Yes, this is a huge leak. Most people don't bet in precise enough amounts. It costs thousands.

Re: Do CENTS matter?
I would think that the times you bet "too much" and lose balances out the times you bet too much and win money from the players calling it those slightly larger bets.
I'm not disagreeing with betting accurate amounts because I do it, but I never thought that I was saving money in any regard. |

Re: Do CENTS matter?
Yes, in all seriousness it's not something you should be worrying about. More important is how to handle AA when you bet and get raised on the flop, or how to play AQ OOP to a preflop raise at 6max. You know, poker related stuff . Generally speaking bet the pot, if the pot is $1.5 bet $1.5, if the pot is like .89 then a $1 bet is perfectly acceptable.

Re: Do CENTS matter?
The lower the BB the more it matters. However, as long as you round down and up with the same frequency it shouldn't matter. Although, I like to pretty precise with my bets in certain situations so I definitely use the cents. For instance, if the pot is $3 and I believe that my bluff will work at least 1 time in 3, I'll bet $1.5 so that in the long run I'll do no worse than even on it.

Re: Do CENTS matter?
i dont mean to derail this thread, but i've got a question:
i play 25NL and my standard PFR is $2. This may seem a little steep at 8xBB, but people will definitely call it more than not. is this a mistake? should i bring it back down to the normal 3-5xBB level? would this cause a problem with isolating people, and causing family pots because "it's only $1"? is this line a thought a huge leak? please shine some light on my situation. |

[/ QUOTE ] I find this to be really table dependent. Sometimes somebody sets a 8xBB standard at the table and everyone is willing to call. If I have AA-QQ, I am going to follow the table standard usually. Same thing for live poker...At the Taj in AC, the $1/2 game has a $300 max buy in. If you raise to $10, everyone at the table and some guy off on the rail is going to be calling your bet. When I play there, I am typically making it $15-$20 PF. In short, it depends on the table, but even more importantly I think, the average stack size at the table. |

Re: Do CENTS matter?
I do the same thing and then round to 5s and 10s as the pot gets bigger. So I'll bet $5 into a $4.50 or $6.50 pot or $20 into a $23 pot when I'm trying to make a "pot-sized" bet. I can't imagine this having much effect on EV.
