Re: John D\'agostino

He is 100% playing w/ his own $$$ [/ QUOTE ] I'm just curious. Do you know John or are you just assuming this based on how much he was won? I have no idea if he is playing his own money or not, but I know of numerous players who have won far more than John and are fully or partially staked in big cash games. |

Don\'t they sometimes use Bellagio/Vegas Poker chips?
don't they use high stakes casino chips sometimes?
I thought when the Aviation Club in Paris robbery happened, a lot of the players had Bellagio Poker chips on the table instead of cash - supposedly it was easier to transport $50000/$10000 Bellagio chips into the country then actual money. but I could be wrong....that's just what I thought I heard. Re: Don\'t they sometimes use Bellagio/Vegas Poker chips?
You're right. But $5K per chip is too many chips to move millions. Even if you use the $25K chips, you're still talking a rack or two amongst everybody at the table. Wiring is safer and easier for these amounts, as long as you don't mind leaving a trail that the IRS might misinterpret (because of all the lending and such in the game, you could easily wire over nothing, and wire back $2M, and all of that $2M might be loans that got repaid).

Re: John D\'agostino
El's answer is good, and much of it applies to me. Basically, I won't play in a big game, 150-300 or higher, unless there is at least a couple of really weak players in the game. And in the big game, even though there are losers as well as winners (as their always must be), none of the losing players are really weak. So, even if I were sure I had an edge in the game, it wouldn't be enough of an edge for me to want to play.
For example, if I had an edge in that game, it might be that my edge in terms of $/hour is just as good in the 400-800 game at the next table, and with a lot less variance. Later, Greg Raymer (FossilMan) |

[ QUOTE ] 1500/3000K...It takes about a million dollar BR to play that comfortably. Try way, way more. [/ QUOTE ] That's 300+ BB if my math is right. Isn't that the standard? [/ QUOTE ] I think he was messing with you because 3000k = $3,000,000. |

Re: John D\'agostino
Recently (at least), John has been crushing the 200/400 on UB to the point where he can't get a game anymore. He has also "signed on" with Full Tilt Poker. As for as the 200/400 at UB (for reference)...for one particular week, about a month ago, John stated he was up 240K. Anyone who's watched him play heads up in that game will know that claim is completely believable.

Re: John D\'agostino
NL is one of the games in "The Big Game" but even in that game they have a 100,000 max loss cap per hand.

Re: John D\'agostino
Funny you mentioned this.
I watched him lose about $8K in about 20 minutes one morning, playing one-on-one. He may be a genius, but he looked like a fish to me. |
