Pocket 99s
MP1 was loose and somewhat aggressive, but not overly aggressive.

Re: Pocket 99s
if you bet the turn, you have to lay it down to the c/r. your other viable option is checking behind here and calling a river bet.

Re: Pocket 99s
I bet the turn because he checked the flop (that's why I bet the flop too) and I didn't see how the turn changed anything. Normally, I would lay this down to the CR, but the fact that there were 3 Qs on the board meant that any pocket pair gave you a full house. I guess I called down on the probability he a PP smaller than mine. Not that that was right, but that's what I was thinking at the time (while getting dizzy playing on 3 other tables)

Re: Pocket 99s
Miles suggestion to check the turn was a good one, because that way you would have been able to see a showdown for the same cost as betting the turn and folding to a raise.
Also checking the turn would have the advantage of not scaring off a smaller pocket pair than your 99, so that you may be able to collect a bet from your opponent on the river. |

Re: Pocket 99s
I understand the logic of his suggestion. Unfortunately, I actually thought I was ahead because of the flop check followed by the turn check (which turned into a CR). Given the way I played it, I think I should have folded as he suggested.

Re: Pocket 99s
I bet fold this every time. checking is weak imo.

Re: Pocket 99s
I think the key to deciding whether to call down from MP1's turn raise is how agressive he was.
I would probably call down against a very agressive player, but fold against a passive player. Your read that MP1 was loose but not overly agressive, suggests to me that he has a K. You were getting effective odds somewhat better than 4:1 to call down. However, I doubt that you will have the best hand nearly 20% of the time, which you need to make calling profitable. |
