Default Legality of barber shop

Want to know if you have a barber shop if it has to be licensed. I see many barber shops in more urban areas with no license. Is that just escaping the eyes of the law or is a license not need for simple barber type haircuts?
Thanks in advance

licensing requirements probably depend on your state/county.

It depends on whether or not it offers a "happy ending"

OK so lets say New Jersey any thoughts? Perhaps what is the code in your state. Im am interested in perhaps opening one. Essentailly it is like renting as barbers pay you a weekly amount to use the space (ie chair and mirror you provide)

"In order to work in New Jersey you need to have a license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling."

This is also the state where you're not allowed to pump your own gas, so things may be different elsewhere.

In the town I grew up in, there was a big controversy over a couple women who were giving out free haircuts to homeless people and they got shut down because they didn't have a license.

Wow. You need a license to give haircuts??

Would anyone know how much said license costs?

What a freakin' scam. Theft, for God's sake. Why would you need a license to give a haircut?
