Default Step Up for Once - My First 200+15 win.

I play almost everything on Party. Limits ranging from 1/2 to 10/20, NL 50 - NL 100, and SnGs between 10+1 and 50+5. Normally, I play 20+2 SNGs though. I was doing the 100 SNG quest and I got totally hammered last night. I can't play 4 SNGs at once I have discovered. I finished in 4th place at all four tables last night. I've never been more distressed.

I decided to switch gears this morning and focus all my energy on one 200+15 tournament. I managed to WIN the tournament. Not only does this boost my BR a nice chunk, but it gives me the confidence to know that I can actually beat (maybe just once) the caliber of players at the 200+15 level.

All I'm suggesting is step up your SNG limits for a one try thing. If you play 10+1, take a crack at 50+5. See how you fair in a higher limit and concentrate as hard as you can. You might be surprised!

While winning is nice, you've gotta realize that at no matter what level there will be variance. For example, first hand running into KK vs AA. If your BR can't handle this variance (which is very prevalent, my example was an extreme single case) then I strongly suggest staying at the 20s. There's no reason you shouldn't be concentrating on the 20s are much as you did with the 200s, with poker you should always be keeping your focus.

I think what you did was foolish and you got lucky. Go back to $20 SNGs and learn from it.

Its not 100% foolish if he can afford the loss and the $215 wont kill or even hurt his bankroll. I think taking small stabs at higher limits is a fine idea provided that you can survive if you do lose.

However the advice to just move up on a whim is bad advice. BR is the most important factor to consider before moving up to any limit.(Having the skill is given importance).

I say congradulations on your win. You took a calculated risk, and you were rewarded as such. Dont let it go to your head though. Look at your bankroll, play acording to that. Dont get in a rush to make a mound of money. Play 1-2 at a time and build yourself up, and when you can play that $215 with a decent bankroll then by all means go for it. Until then the other posters are correct. If you dont have a BR for $215 then DONT play it. Chances are luck will run its course and catch up with you.

Playing in a higher limit without the bankroll, experience and after losing several is not 100% foolish ?

Well, It was a one time stab. My bankroll could afford to take the hit if I lost and if I won, it would be great. The confidence that it adds is tremendous. I totally agree with you that I should put 100% effort into all games but when its such a low ammount of money, it's hard to keep focus.

i'm happy for you, but if you want to increase your bankroll and think you can beat the 215 sng's, why not start by moving up to the 55's exclusively? i also think it's odd that you would jump up to 215's without trying your hand at the 109's. it's strange for people to jump multiple levels at once.

when i started playing limit, i didn't go from 3/6 directly to 20/40. either way, if you're winning at the low limits, you should have plenty of bankroll from your 200 win to move up. congrats.

Hey, I won I'm all set - I cannot wait for the new UB promotion though. It's like a free $3200 in my pocket.
