Default The screwing begins

Rhetorical question, who was among the biggest, internal to Iraq, allies of the US during the invasion? Answer for those who dont know it is the Kurds.

Another question, before the war began which group of people enjoyed remarkable autonomy and independence away from the eyes of Saddam? The answer again is the Kurds.

Another question, what is the group that is violently oppressed by the government of a major ally of the US. The answer my friends is the Kurds (of Turkey).

And now to the screwing, or at least the foreplay to the screwing:
Kurds object

Note two little paragraphs buried in this report:

The country's leading Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Husseini al-Sistani, had warned of trouble if the Security Council gave any legitimacy to the interim charter, adopted in March.
The Kurds won a major concession in the interim constitution which states that if a majority of voters in three of Iraq's 18 provinces reject the permanent charter, it will not be approved. Kurds control three provinces.
Lets see, now Bremer et al, got the Iraqi's to agree to the interim constitution and even got Al Sistani's OK to the same (albeit with reservations). The Kurds were given there concession, and just a few little months later that has been pulled out. Al Sistani basically has said now, that the interim constitution was not worth the paper it was written on.

So, how could this play out. Here is my prediction:

1. Al Sistani is playing both sides of the fence so that the Shia's will win the elections and control the state (or the Americans will have to install a new Shah of Iraq, like we did in Iran and the british did once before in Iraq). The Shia and Sunni clerics (setting aside their difference temporarily to oust the infidels) will be ruling that land in a some number of years (likely less than 10). They will play paddy cake with the US army (obviously they cant fight), win the elections and then start to take steps to control the land (much as the Saudi was controlled by dictators while we were on that land). At least in the UN, four of five security council members will support them.

2. The Kurds of Iraq and Turkey will start to get together to try and form their long wanted Kurdistan. They sort of had that in the Northern No Fly Zone before falling victim to the American propaganda. Remember that the envisioned Kurdistan includes major oil fields.

3. The American Army will be called on by the Iraqi Govt (read Clergy) and our Nato allies (Turkey) to forcibly take back Kurdistan.

The screwing of the Kurds will be complete. Iraq will be controlled by the Clergy eventually.

If so, as long as we have a strong (ie: non-Democrat) leader we will invade again and set things right.
