Default Pushing all in here

Hi All,

What do you think of this play? I decided to take a big risk and push. I was sure my opponent hit part of this flop (probably a K) before I pushed.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (4 handed) converter

Button (t870)
SB (t2400)
Hero (t1000)
UTG (t5730)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG calls t200, Button folds, SB folds, Hero checks.

Flop: (t500) K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets t800 (All-In), UTG calls t800.

Turn: (t2100) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: (t2100) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: t2100
Main Pot: t2100 (t2100), between Hero and UTG. > Pot won by UTG (t2100).

Results in white below:
UTG shows Kd 6c (one pair, kings).
Hero shows 8c 9c (high card, king).
Outcome: UTG wins t2100.

I guess your reading powers are beyond mine. How did you know he hit the flop when you were first to act after the flop?

I would have had no idea what he had, and therefore I probably would have moved all-in here as well.

Since he had such an enormous stack, I might have checked if I thought he would call the extra $800 with any 2 cards.

Hi Phil,

I should state that I put this player on a weak A or K and was not suprised when he hit part of the flop...

Check raise is fine to get more chips.

This play is your only play. You can't fold to a reraise, and you'd rather win the pot right now. You are probably at worse a small dog, and there is also a very good chance he did not hit the king and would fold on the flop.

Tough luck, but a play that you have to make.

I agree, you really don't have another play here. If you're sure, he's either on a weak ace or king there's a decent chance he'll fold, and if not you're better than 2:1, so you really have to get unlucky twice. (him not folding, then you missing your flush)
