Default What was he thinking?

All right, no one wants another beat story, but I have to post this. Can anyone explain why player b1357 would call my all in? Is there some fine point of poker I'm missing here?

Party Poker 20+2 No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t100 (7 handed) converter

UTG (t390)
Hero (t1035)
b1357 (t1370)
CO (t230)
Button (t1220)
SB (t1310)
BB (t2445)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG raises to t390 (All-In), Hero raises to t1035 (All-In), b1357 raises to t1370 (All-In), CO calls t230 (All-In), Button folds, SB folds, BB folds.

Flop: (t3175) 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players, 4 all-in)

Turn: (t3175) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players, 4 all-in)

River: (t3175) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players, 4 all-in)

Final Pot: t3175

UTG shows 9c 9s (two pair, nines and threes).
Hero shows Qh Qc (two pair, queens and threes).
b1357 shows Ad 3s (three of a kind, threes).
CO shows 4c 4s (two pair, fours and threes).
Outcome: MP2 wins t3175.

He went on to win the tourny.

I think it's a bad play but I think the thought process is something like this:

First all-in is a desperation move, and could be any two. All-in over the top could very well be an attempt to protect a weakish hand that is trying to capitalize on a desperation play, something like KQs, while shutting others out of the pot.

So he thinks his A-high could be good here. It's not a play I would make in this situation, but it's also not quite as bad as it could be given some other context.

Eastbay, thanks for your take on the hand. I really was wanting feedback and your explanation makes about as much sense as any. He wasn't a maniac, which is why his call floored me. At that point I figured he had to have aces or kings to call.

I raised all in for the reason you stated, I didn't really want to play a multi way pot and was happy to win the short stack. I guess I would have won a heck of a pot by his mis calculation if he hadn't got lucky.

On the plus side, I took a big breath and entered another 20+2 and won, for my first win at this level.

Default he wasn\'t

Simple, the average (and by average, I mean like 90% of all players) online are so incredibly stupid, that they should not be allowed to LIVE, let alone breed. Their eyesight, insight and foresight does not even extend beyond the edge of their own corneas. Simple as that.
