Default Winning and then comming back with less money

I'm currently on a Party 25NL where a certain player was up to around 70 and left. Only to return moments later with 15. A few of us commented on this, and he thought it was funny. He then brought this up to 25, left, and came back with 5. He is still doing this. Is this somehow against the rules? I think it's ridiculous that he can keep on doing this.

Why would that be against the rules? He's only hurting himself(if he's a good player) by taking money off the table. And the part about sitting with less than the max, you said he came back later and sat with $5. With only 10bb's you are usually not going to last very long, not only that, you can't get paid off very well if you hit a monster.

"Why would that be against the rules? "

It actually is against the rules on most sites and in most casinos. It has its advantages and disadvantages; for a bad player it is quite advantageous. It is true that he can't maximise his profits, but then nor can you in hands against him. The reason it is agains the rules is, rational or not, people don't like the idea of not being able to get their money back in one hand.

That's what I thought. It's not like I reporteed him or something, I just think it's a lame thing to do.

I can never understand why that would be a terrible thing to do. I'll NEVER desire to have a big stack in the table and I want only want to be the big stack, so I'll control of the game, and besides why would I care that he has won my money? His big stack is NOW his money and the fact that we lost money to him/her in the past should be irrelevant.

On a side note, the fact that this player does this may provoke annoyance and tilt on the table. It may actually be a desirable thing!

I suggest you report him. I have emailed party about this before and they "claim" they don't allow this practice. They should have it built into their software like many sites do.

It's violating (getting around) the table stakes rule and should not be allowed.

it's called "banking".

you won't see it done that way in B+M's(it IS vaguely similar to palming chips off the table), but it's a reality for online cardrooms, just as there really is no way to prevent people from using a telephone or IM to collude. yes there are software protection against "banking", but there are very simple ways around it. as for the legitimacy of it, we can all say it's pretty "lame", in the sense that you're taking chips out of play.

in hellmuth's book, he mentions a "cash-down" rule--for instance, if the buyin is $20 at a home game, and you have more than a set "cash-down" amount which is 2x buyin($40), and you have $60, you can "cash-down" $20 of it, meaning take $20 off the table as profit. but that's for home game action, and honestly kinda lame, IMO. the point is to keep the stakes small(esp. if it's NL), but what it does is change the dynamic of the game to a "profit-taking" game, making it perhaps less friendly.

realistically, if there's no way to enforce it one way or another, it will continue to happen...have to learn to live with it, or gain from it....

I do this all the time, except I go and play at another table after a 200% increase. If you want to keep your risk low, and you are playing with good money-management rules, you can't go on overbetting your poker "kelly". I NEVER go back to the same table, though, but that's just my choice.

IMO, once you won the money, it is yours to do as you like. And if your game plan calls for standing up, then do it.
