Moving up
I know there have been countless posts on this subject but I need my specific question answered for a bet. I regularily play at a 2/4 game with a friend from work. I did very well initially ($1000 in the first 6 sessions) but have struggled a bit of late (when you are playing 150 hands a night the downswings can drag). He did very well his first couple sessions but has lost virtually every time since. He is blaming the loses on the fact that many of these 2/4 players are playing every hand. This causes him to play many more hands (probably upwards of 50% at times). "How am I suppose to win a hand when somebody calls my raise with 22 or 83s", he says. His solution: to move up to the 3/6 or 4/8 tables where the play is better. I tell him he is crazy, that he plays too many hands and has not even proved he can beat the 2/4 game but it is hard getting through to him. Yes, he wont be losing as much to 83s or A2o, but he will be missing out on their stupid plays, which will be profitable long term. Is this 2/4 player who has been consistently losing $100 a night ready for a 3/6 or 4/8? I personally think it's poker suicide. Thoughts?

He'll probably learn the expensive way.

Re: Moving up
Poker suicide easy. Tell him to read the Loose Games section in HEFPAF. Pick up WLLH, and get an account on Poker Stars and play their micro-limit games until he can beat them. Then, he can go to the casino and rip up the 2/4 tables.
