Default Stepping up to a higher limit full of fish

I have been playing for less than a year. Since January I have been keeping stats on my play. In that time I have played 77hrs in AC and at the $3-$6 limit. My earn rate is $19.26/hr at that limit. I don't ahve problems with discipline and I can read the fish at that level like a book.

I have an open invitation to a weekly game full of Greek drug dealers with no respect for money and even less poker skill. Two of my friends have been killing the game for the past few weeks. They are telling me that people are capping it preflop with 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and going to the river with any pocket pair. There is one guy in the game who barely speaks English and looses about $2000 - $3000 everytime he plays. He has repeatedly misread his hand and had to be told what it is when flips it over.

The only problem is that my poker bankroll is $2000 and they play a $10-$20 limit. I am running a fairly high risk of ruin at this limit and with the aggressive nature of the game. Do you think that the potential earn in this game is worth the risk?

I heard today that some guys robbed a cash register out of a store in the Boston area. When they heard a police car chasing them, they ditched the register and hid in some bushes. Unknown to them, a roll of register tape came out and provided a trail for the police to find the criminals in their hiding spot.

It's sometimes amazing how people's desire for money allows them to demonstrate how stupid people can be.

Please don't focus on the fact that some of the players are drug dealers. The game is safe and legitimate. I was just asking the question in terms of risk of ruin in bankroll terms.

Why even mention that they are Greek drug dealers then?

To try to emphasize the fact that they are not poker players. Just guys who like to take risk and have a lot of money.

Just because a person sells drugs it does not mean he is going to kill you, rob you or threaten you. There are metal detectors at the door and security. The game is run by a guy who has no interest in the game. He just collects rake. The game is dealt by hired professional dealers.

There's at least one guy who doesn't seem to care that he loses up to $3,000 a week and your bankroll is $2,000 total. Plus the guys who play are criminals who have no respect for money. Who knows what else they have no respect for.

I suppose it depends on your definition of "ruin."

In 4 months a whole 77 hours to base your skill on.

Hey, go for it. Keep an eye on the door, though. No honor among criminals. Especially when they dont really know you or who you are.

If you get bit, however, as many have responded, you have no one to blame but yourself. Common sense says to find a different game. Especially if these dealers are rolling in that kind of cash. They sound like a little above your common street peddler.

good luck.
