Default Shortish-Handed Opening Strategy

Often find myself playing in $6-$12 games that for shortish bursts end up 4 or 5 handed. Does this type of game requires different opening and raising standards than a full table?

For instance, is Kxs more valuable in this sort of game because any pair of kings could easily win (why: only 10 cards dealt out and odds say that there are only 1.5 kings and aces dealt each time)?

Is there some sort of protocal ala HFAP? I know there's a short-handed section, but I think they mean really short-handed, like 2 or 3 players, not 4 or 5. Maybe I'm wrong.
