Default If you don\'t like the Patriot Act...

If you don't like the Patriot Act... then help do something to stop it. There are dozens of anti-Patriot act petitions on the web from organizations of nearly every polital stripe. Here's a link to just one of the groups opposing the Patriot Act: http://www.repealnow.com

You can also contact your congressman at: http://www.house.gov/writerep/

The odds of making a difference are a lot greater if you write to your congressman than if you post your opinions in the News, Views, & Gossip Forum.

I think we already know that. But if you think most republicrats care enough about freedom to care what we think, you may well be more delusional than those who might think that posting on NV&G counts as effective action.

Don't get stuck on stupid. Vote Libertarian.

Thanks for the links. Where do we go if we think The Patriot Act is too weak and needs more teeth?

You know, I think ultimately you have to classify Libertarians as anarchists. After all, they fit on neither side of the political spectrum, so they must be on that other half. Viva la revolucion! (just don't expect me to join it )

China would be a good place to move. There you can give up nearly all your rights if that's what you want.

The PATRIOT Act is nothing compared to previous security acts.

The unpopularity of the Patriot Act makes it one of the few issues in which politicians are likely to be influenced by public input. Politicians realize supporting unpopular legislation could prove costly in future reelection campaigns. The result is that they are far more likely to be swayed by public opinion to oppose the Patriot Act, even if they are loathe to do so on the typical issue.

Conversely, casting a vote for Gary Nolan next November is almost guaranteed to have no bearing whatsoever upon whether or not the Patriot Act is repealed.

Guys,

Can you at least make a small effort to post this political stuff in the proper forum? This belongs in "Other Topics". This forum is intended to be Poker News, Views, and Gossip.
