Default at wits end

I give up! I know everyone runs bad....but this is getting uncanny. I just cant win anymore, and am tired of it. If anyone has noticed any leaks in my play I would be greatful for a heads up...but I really just think the poker gods like to stick it in my ass. I mean if I have Kings I am against aces, if I flop a set, I am against a bigger set (or quads)...if I hit the flop, someone sucks out on me and catches their flush when I am not giving them pot odds, and its usually with a hand like 74s. When I had my worst 2 weeks Ive ever had after Xmas, I quit playing for almost 3 weeks. The last day I played here were my stats 770 hands played, 24% flops seen, 1% win. my win rate for the week was under 2% of the hands played. Stats from today 450 hands played 27% flops, 3 hands won......3!!!!!!!!! I dont even care about the money, its about playing correctly.....and my f***ing dog could win more hands than me right now. What gives? help!? and on top of it party is not sending my hand histories.

Relax - Its part of the game. If you cant take the swings dont play. Running bad for a few weeks is nothing. I have played thousands and thousands and thousands of hours over the last 5 years and I had streaks that defy logic. You just suck it up and keep playing.

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson (World Series of Poker $1 million winner) went a full year without winning a tournament before winning two? events at last years World Series.

A few weeks? Try being one of the best players in the world and going a year without winning.

Take a vacation from poker for a while. Whenever I run poorly, I just don't play for a while (depending on the severity of my recent streak) and come back to the game fresh. Don't force yourself to play, don't play to get even, don't play if it's not fun. Maybe play in a different environment: if you normally play online, get a home game together with some buddies for small stakes, or go to the nearest casino and bust up some locals.

Good luck

I think i posted almost the exact same story a few months ago. opened an account on party, went from 100 to 600 in a month playing .5/1 and then lost the entire thing in the next month. Similar stats and stories to you.

I switched over now to SNGs and play those almost exclusively. I find much less variation in my BR and I can really enjoy the games more now which leads to better play.

You'll never have a huge win night, but you'll get lots of consistent good nights. You'll spend a lot less time telling bad beat stories too in my case.

One thing you can try is playing just one table. When you do this really focus on reading the players. I think a good NL player should be able to win more than 2% of the hands played no matter what their cards are. By playing more than one table you are missing many opportunities to pick up the pot uncontested.

Erm... if he's running poorly, trying to bluff more against the party fish (who will call you down and beat you with second pair or such things, thus exacerbating your tilt) doesn't seem like the answer- sounds more like a bad run of flops, which sounds like what he is saying. 2% of hands won is quite low, but I've had winning days with 4%. Remember, its how much $ you win, not how many pots you win.

As for the fireman, I could give you all the stock answers (take time off, drop limits, play some SnGs for a while, study more, etc), but I think they've been covered.

So: here's my advice for if/when you go back to the Party NL. Play the tightest, most ABC game you can imagine. Your 27 and 24% of flops are probably ok, but I'd shoot for more like the upper teens until you get back on your feet. Don't get fancy with your betting patterns- bet when you're ahead, fold when you're behind. Don't chase draws, especially on (paired) boards where you might be drawing to a loser. Fold all but super-premium starters UTG and in EP. Limp with low-medium pairs, try to hit sets, and bail if you don't. If you feel uncertain about your hand, feel free to fold, especially when the pot is still small. Sure, you'll drop some winners, but at Party there's so much dead money that you'll can still win over the long run.

Hope this gives you some food for thought.

If someone is only wining 2% of there hands they are either getting horible cards or not bluffing/stealing enough.

I average about 5% of hand won, out of that probally about 2.5% is from bluffs/steals...

Im not saying eh shoudl go out of his way to bluff, i am jsut saying he may not be taking adavantage of all the oppertunities.

We all have these times man. I am not exactly lighting it up either lately. Got sucked out repeatedly by 2, 3 and 4 outers all day. Lost some dough, but was in profitable situations and that is what counts. Just try and get in these spots and things will eventually turn around. When they do, you'll probably laugh about this little hiccup and start winning consitently again.

Good luck
