Default Will internet poker be around in 3 years, 5 years, 10 years?

I am curious to what future you guys think internet poker has. Will the government intervenve and shut it down? I have heard that they are going too prevent television companies from allowing the sites to advertise on television, is this true?

Those who have become internet pros, what do you expect form online poker in the upcoming years?

Just like the late 90's was the golden age of daytrading, right now is the golden age of online poker.

Most of these guys on party poker don't have a freaking clue how to play...there's no way the shark/fish ratio can stay this positive for more than 2 or 3 years tops. In summer of 2000, my podiatrist asked if I'd be willing to train him to daytrade, so he could give up all the HMO annoyances of the MD profession. I'll know poker has hit the top when I start getting requests from high end professionals to teach them to play cards. Quite enjoyable for as long as this lasts. Even if the sh*thead politicians don't ruin online poker, it can't possibly stay this good forever.

You have to remember that potential new players reach the legal age every year, and that, is a never ending influx to poker. You can't learn poker before playing, so there will allways be new players/fishes.

There will be online poker for long to come if you're not American, and even if you are i think the outlook is still good.

For example at one site i play there is a player named Zagnut who is a huge fish and just keeps losing and buying in again and again. As long as these guys are around my pockets will remain full.

I think poker will stay around for a while.
Keep in mind that the play money tables at most sites are HUGE, and for the most part, most play money players are under 18. Eventually they too will gain access to real money play, and most of them will be quite bad at it.

Simple economics though. It's currently easier to make a 6-figure income via online poker than to go to medical school and work your ass off for the same income. Same as daytrading equities in the late 90's...eventually economic reality cathches up to us, and we need to find someplace else to make our easy 6-figure incomes.

There really aren't many people who play poker online right now. If you think about 30k people on party poker is not that much. I used to play online games all the time there would be 100,000-200,000 people playing at the same time. When more people find about online poker you'll see over 100,000 people playing at the same time on party poker.

That's what will happen when more americans find out about it. There will be even more when the rest of the world finds out.

Like any fad, the novelty will eventually wear down. It will still exist. And how exactly do you guys think that the government is going to shut it down? From what I understand, none of the sites operate from within the US.
