50-100 KQo hand.
50-100, we are currently 9-handed.
I pick up KQo in the small blind. UTG+2 calls, very passive (and loose) pre-flop player (but does not play terribly post flop) calls in the CO, I complete, big blind checks. The flop is 2K2 rainbow. I bet, folded to the passive player who raises. I call. The turn is a 5. I check, he bets, I raise, he thinks for about 10 seconds and calls slowly. The river is a 5 for a final board of 2K2 5 5. I bet, he thinks again and calls. All comments appriciated. -Diplomat |

Re: 50-100 KQo hand.
Raise preflop for sure.
I don't see a reason to checkraise the turn. He's not going to stop betting a king and you have reason to be concerned that the "very passive player" might have a 2. |

Re: 50-100 KQo hand.
Hi Clark,
if he were passive all around, I would have check/called instead of raising. I don't think I was very clear in my player description. (probably because I'm going on hour #42 or so here without sleep) He was very passive pre-flop, and played pretty much typically post-flop. I am sure he would three-bet me with a deuce here, and I'd probably lay it down. (with the admission that such a play was probably not all that good either) -Diplomat |

Oh ya, one more thing.
[ QUOTE ] Raise preflop for sure. [/ QUOTE ] Really? My default play would be to just call here. -Diplomat |

Re: 50-100 KQo hand.
Yeah, I saw the distinction between pre and postflop, but its not like there are many passive preflop players who turn into overaggressives postflop.
Here's the deal, if I was for some reason inclined to checkraise the turn, I would have instead just 3-bet the flop and led the rest of the way. |

Re: 50-100 KQo hand.
IMO some of the easiest money there is to be made in holdem comes from raising loose limpers with superior holdings and getting dead blind money into the center of the table at the same time. I think that KQo is more than enough hand in this spot. Frankly, I'd raise preflop here nearly 100% of the time unless the first limper was particularly tight, which you didn't indicate.

Re: 50-100 KQo hand.
Frequent raising keeps your opponents back on their heels in disarray and unable to read you.
Raising in sb makes bb pass out. |

Re: 50-100 KQo hand.
Was this the hand when the guy open limped with AK in LP? LOL, that was pretty shocking. I think you played the hand just fine given that player and the cards out. That was one awesome game we were in.

Re: 50-100 KQo hand.
I partially agree with your first reason, and definitely agree with your second reason.
The raise pre-flop would have been for value. -Diplomat |
