Default +EV on today\'s casino-on-net redeposit promo

Redeposit $100 or more at Casino-on-net and get $30 for $300 of action today only. This has EV of +$28 with basic strategy black jack... I lost $1 on the deal, hope you do better.

Hi Lunchmeat

I deposited the cash and played a little over $300 for nil gain/nil loss. No $30 has yet been credited to my account. Is this the same for you? The rules talk about "prizes" being deposited within 24 hours of the promotion end - which would make sense given that cashing back out again today would disqualify you.

BTW Starluck is giving out hourly prizes for people logged in and playing for real money. I've logged in, opened the Java version and played one $1 hand - maybe this gets you in the draw.

Default EV Question

Playing out $300 to earn this, am I better off playing 150 hands at $2, or 50 hands at $6?

How about playing 3 hands at once? What affect(effect?) if any, does this have on your EV?

Thanks.

Default Re: EV Question

How you slice up the bets doesn't really affect your EV. However, it does affect your variance. (Obviously the two interact to the extent that if you have a really bad run you could go bust.)

Slicing up the overall action into smaller units reduces your variance and increases the probability that your actual result will be closer to $28. If you played single-handed using an equal stake each hand, I believe your SD would be approximately 1.2 times your bet unit times the square root of the number of hands you played. If you played 3-handed, your SD would be roughly 2.6 times your bet unit times the square root of the number of hands (or rather deals) you played (i.e. the number of deals would be 1/3 of what it would be if you played single-handed).

I emailed customer service about this and they told me the $30 will get deposited within 24 hours of the end of the day (their time).

I forgot about Star Luck, thanks for the heads up...
also, do you have any idea how to calculate standard deviation when playing 5 hands? I want to know why I keep busting out my Intercasino monthly bonus.

There's a formula here for calculating SD for multi-handed games here - wizardofodds
