NL at Harrah\'s
I was in New Orleans for the weekend. Harrah's has started spreading a NL hold'em game with $2/$5 blinds. I was told that sometimes it's spread as PL. I only play NL in tournaments, so I didn't sit at the game, but I was told that it was a pretty good game.
So it seems that Hold'em is catching on there. 2 years ago they had 1 4/8 Hold'em game and 1 HE/OH game going. The rest were Omaha (High). Now HE is the most popular game. Several 3/6 tables, a few 6/12 tables and a 10/20 game that goes on the weekend and sometimes during the week. |

Re: NL at Harrah\'s
since they moved the poker room more tourist are playing and they want holdem. The staple game now is 3-6 holdem with at least one 6-12 holdem. a 10-20 and sometimes a 15-30 game goes on during the week but, only if their is not a nl game going. my girlfriend deals there and she says that the nl game is very soft everytime she is in the box. when i was in their on sat i only saw one pro in the game the rest were fish.

Re: NL at Harrah\'s
Did she deal the 10/20 game at all? I played that all night Sat and into Sunday night. I was the middle aged white guy with the tall Asian wife; she played 3/6 all weekend.

Re: NL at Harrah\'s
Well thanks Zack, but being 47, (and 48 next month) I can't call myself a young guy anymore, even if Angel Fish makes me feel that way!!
BTW - I'm busy with kids and travel the next few weeks, but now plan on spending the weekend of Nov 22/23 at Foxwoods. It would be great to see you again, if you can make it. |

Re: NL at Harrah\'s
I thought Harrah's New Orleans was horrible, though I will play there again. Here are my complaints:
1. Too noisy! The "room" is not really a room, but just a rail that separates it from the noisy slot machine great room. 2. The brush put me on the list. I then asked him to direct me to where I could get chips. When I came back he had given my place away. I was only gone for a few minutes. 3. The dealers would not call the number of players after each betting round. Which is what I am used to in CA. I aksed the dealers to do this, they would do it for a few hands and then stop. 4. The lighting was poor, which makes the cards hard to see. 5. Since the players are older like me [age 46], it would be nice if they used the larger font vision cards like used in the CA rooms. 6. Dealers were inexperienced and had to get more experienced dealers to ajudicate contested hands from unexperienced players. 7. Dealers were not good at policing up the bad manners displayed by players. Again, this is what I am used to in CA. I did talk to the floor manager about the above. The manager inidcated that the recent "poker fashion" has caught them by surprise, and that they are still learning. So in all fairness, I guess that is okay for now. I will be in NOLA again for two weeks that straddle the Halloween weekend. I will give the place another try. The players ranged from excellent to poor at the low-limt tables. I counted two active $3-6 limit HE tables. |

Re: NL at Harrah\'s
Yeah, I agree that the place is noisy along side the slot machines, but it is tolerable if you're in 1 of the back rooms. Smoking is allowed except in 1 back room and at seats 1 and 10. I've not really had much of a problem with the brushes or the dealers. But perhaps they treat me better as I'm there on a semi regular basis.
However, the games are good. As I have said before, I wouldn't go to NOLA to play at Harrah's, but being in NOLA, Harrah's is a profitable experience |

Re: NL at Harrah\'s
i guess you did not see how much the rake is yes the dealers are bad. i like the room being in the open because it brings in more fish. do you want money or be warm and cozy? granted in cali you can most of the time have both.

Re: NL at Harrah\'s
Yes, I want both. And a classy place will provide both, especially the fish. In fact I beleive that fish will be more attracted to a classier place, because by nature they are prententious when the fist start out playing. The better players will often put up with the crappier venues just so they can play. So there!
