Default Borgata/Trop hotels question

I may get to make my second trip to AC this Christmas -yay! Planning on playing at the Borg this time as I rarely get to play live in a casino, so a nice room, good service etc is more important to me than game selection etc (probably better at the Taj, but I didn't really like its room when I went last time).

So, a couple of questions that have no doubt been answered before (sorry):
Does anyone know of any reasonable hotels within walking distance of the Borgata? I suspect not as I have an idea that there's almost nothing within walking distance of it, hotels or otherwise.

If not, I've seen decent room rates at the Trop. Has anyone ever stayed there/what's it like? Do the flat rate taxi fares ($9?) apply from there to the Borg (it's quite far, right?)

If I do decide to stay at the Borg, can you get a poker rate playing low limits ($2-4/$3-6)? Is there any chance of getting one near Christmas (say the 23rd?) Are teh rooms busier than usual then?

Thanks in advance for any help.

No cheap hotels by the Borgata

Trop rooms are nice, though not extravagant

I dont think flat rate extends out there but there are "Jitneys" (cheap minibusses) that go there for about $2 per person

Christmas is not big in AC, so the 23rd you should have a chance. Id say stay at the Borgata and pay up if you have to, midweek shouldnt be too expensive even if they wont give a poker rate

Thanks for the info Rollaj. I found a Trop room for about half the price of what the Borg is offering but for the convenience and all we'll probably stay at the Borg. I'll post a message closer to the time to see if any 2+2ers are around then.
Cheers, NG.

Both Harras and Trump Marina are within walking distance of the Borg.

Getting the poker rate at the Borg requires 4 hours of play. If you've never played there before, then book at the regular rate, then have the poker room validate your 4 hours. Check out in person and they will give you the Poker rate.

Yes the taxi flat rate works from the Trop to the Borg ($8)

Thanks for this. So there's no need to arrange the poker rate in advance? And low limits count? I guess I should give them a call.
Thanks again.

If you've never played there then you can't get the rate in advance. Also, save yourself some time and sign up for a Borgata card in the poker room to avoid the long lines at the card service area in the mall.

Yes Low limits count.

The flat taxi-rate ($8 plus tip) applies between all the hotels ... last weekend I took a cab from The Borgata to The White House (Mississippi & Arctic Avenue, don't miss their Cheese-Stake Hogie or their Italien Special, best in state), and the meter automatically stops at $8.

You really don't want to ride the Jitney to the Borgata to often, the suspension in most of those old vans is terrible, and the rought roads - and especially the speed-bumps at the Borg - can give anyone a herniated disk! I'm not joking!

Best,

McMelchior (Johan)
