Default Cry babies..

I'm pretty new to poker, but I've been playing regularly in cardrooms for a couple months now.

I just started moving up to higher limits and played some 6 hours of profitable poker today. I dealt with my first couple of dickheads. One guys kept cursing at me and the dealer when he lost.. I talked him out of it by saying "sorry I got lucky man, better luck next time" or something of that sort. I kind of got sick of doing it after every pot he was involved in, though. Another guy told me to %#%# myself because I called "time", I replied by calling him something back, I nearly wanted to hit him after he ran off his big mouth for another good minute, but eventually I just ignored him. I'm amazed I had the self-control not to make some condescending remark to him once he busted out about 20minutes later.

This game wasn't as fun as the low limit tables--where everyone's drinking and having a good time. :/

1)Dont worry about whiners, anything you say makes it worse, if you say anything make sure it is sarcastic and mocking.... at least you can get a good laugh
2)Do Not call "TIME"! Unless you are in a tourney. You sound like a jackass . If you are playing a ring game you should say "one second" or something like that, but if you say it more than once every 4 hours of play at a limit below 10-20 something is wrong. Do you really want to announce to the table that you are thinking???? "Guys hold on, Im counting down the pot so I can figure my pot odds and implied odds. I also think I am picking up a tell on the 6 seat, and would like to figure out if he is calling or folding"............See what I am saying. Leteveryone think you have no clue what you are doing

Default Get used to it

Dylan,

Not much you can do here. People tend to get emotional when they lose.

I think you should cross post this in the psychology forum.

Stay calm.

You should know that LA is much worse for this kind of behavior in mid-limit games than any other place I have played. This sort of behavior is very rare at my standard haunt in Seattle. People get grumpy and a little ornery, but cursing and personal attacks are not tolerated.

It is in your best interest, if you wish to continue playing live poker (and I suggest that you do), that you learn to ignore these people when they attack you. You cannot allow them to affect your emotional state.

When people criticize my play, my standard response is that I am brand-spanking new to poker and I have no idea what I am doing.

For all the hours I've played live, nobody has ever gotten abusive with me at the table. I would like to think that I'd handle it with some form of humor, or at worst with a real nasty stare.

Your scary looking to begin with, so that stare must make things scarier

The casino should be protecting it's employees and the other players from abuse. Were you playing at the Commerce Club?--Isn't that the L.A. casino with the rep for allowing abusive a-holes to remain at the tables?
