I have been playing OMAHA high for awhile and recently been playing in party and empire in hi/lo sit and go tourneys. I must admit I usually place in the money but recently I hit a losing streak of three tourneys in a roll. I know my weakness is with lo hands. the nuts are easy to read but I am challenged to the understanding the basics. Can someone take a few moments of their time to explain the rudamental lo hand rules?

I interpret your post as a request for an explanation of how to determine which of two (or more) hands is the lowest ... pardon me if I'm wrong here.
What I found to be the simplest way is to think of your hand (two hole-cards, three board-cards) as a number, where Ace represents the figure "1". Arrange in your mind the five cards from the highest to the lowest. Ex: 7-6-4-3-1 Now, the lowest hand (the best low hand) is the one that makes the lowest number! Ex: 8-5-4-3-2 is lower than 8-6-4-3-1 hope this was clarifying! best, McMelchior (Johan) |

First, congratulations. If you can place in the money without knowing the rules you must have some skills!
A low hand is determined by taking your two of your cards and combining them with the three board cards from the board to make the best possible low hand. I first understood how to compare one low hand to another by ordering these five cards from highest to lowest and comparing the numbers - lowest number wins low. For example, if the board is A 3 6 Q 5 and my hand is A 2 6 8 and the other player's hand is A 2 5 7, I'll take the A 3 5 from the board and the 2 6 from my hand to get A 2 3 5 6. My opponent takes the A 3 5 from the board and the 2 7 from his hand to get A 2 3 5 7. Turn both numbers hands around and substitute 1 for A to get A 2 3 5 6 -> 65321 A 2 3 5 7 -> 75321 I end up with the smaller number so I win low. HTH. |

your example is wrong, he takes the 25 from his hand and the A36 on board to match your A2356. Chop it up.

You may be willing to chop, but I want 3/4. We have the same low, 6532A, But Aces over 6s beats Aces over 5s for the high.
