I was in Portland on buisness a few months ago, and in the evenings, I played at the spirit mountain casino.
If I recall, it was about an hour (maybe a bit more) from Hillsboro.
I'm not sure if I recall the directions corectly, but I think it was 99w to 18 south

A bit shorter drive is The Last Frontier Casino in La Center, Washington. About a 35 minute drive from downtown Portland. They have (I think) 7 tables...can be quite busy on the weekends...room tends to be a bit more smoky than I like.

Like the others said, you have two options:

Head north on I-5 about 20 minutes to La Center Washington (exit 16, take a right) and the Last Frontier card room. Friendly, good, sometimes very very good games. Limits 3-6, 4-8 and 10-20 all with full kill. They have at least one stud game. No Omaha. Good food. Yeah, it gets smoky sometimes. And it's been incredibly crowded lately. Minimum 2 hour waits on weekends. If you play 10-20, they'll let you call ahead and put your name on the list. Haven't tried weeknights lately, but it's probably just as bad. Which is why I've been driving to...

Spirit Mountain casino, Hwy 18, Grand Ronde, Oregon. About a 1.5 hour scenic drive from Portland. Check out their website (www.spiritmountain.com) for directions. They spread 2-4,3-6,4-8,10-20,20-40 and I saw pot limit there once. The also spread a couple stud and Omaha games. Smoke free card room. About 14 tables. Friendly staff. Good games. No kill (a dealer said they are trying to make the games 'friendlier' for all the new players trying out poker).

That about covers the Portland options. If you drive out to Spirit Mountain, check out Howard Hughes Spruce Goose's new home in McMinville. You can see it from the highway.
