Default Card Player Magazine

Has anyone noticed that lately there are more and more advertisements showing up in the columns, whether it be for the column authors book, or for poker sites or cruises..... its getting rather annoying

Hi Rollaj:

Could you be a little more specific. Because if that's happening, we would like to track it down and perhaps put a stop to it.

I doubt what you're saying. There is only one non-Two Plus Two author who posts here regularly, and that's Lee Jones, and I have never seen him include an ad. I have also never seen a cruise ad in a post. Perhaps you are confusing us with another site or RGP.

Thanks,
Mason

I think he's talking about Cardplayer Magazine, not the 2+2 forum.

Just print out the articles off of the website....

That's what I do when I can't get to a casino.

Also, try to do it at work, so you don't kill the ink on your printer.

Gotta stay in business somehow. Besides, advertising is revenue, more revenue hopefully means more profit and since profit is a good thing, I for one am not annoyed. But then again, I'm an unrepentent capitalist.

Cardplyer's Website is what he's talking about. I agree with moth that profit is what it's about. If you don't like profit let's play some Hold'em

I dont know it seems pretty clear when I post it.

The subject was CardPlayer Magazine.

I then wrote of the authors (of the colums in their articles) always slipping in a reference to their books:
1) McEvoy---We also believe that Championship No-Limit & Pot-Limit Hold’em has played a major part in the expansion of no-limit tournaments by helping readers to overcome the fear of playing no-limit poker
2)Hellmuth---I assume you know that I have a big ego; why else would I write Play Poker Like the Pros?
3)Malmuth---(See my book Gambling Theory and Other Topics for more discussion.)
4)Ciaffone---Three of my books, Pot-limit and No-limit Poker, Omaha Holdem Poker, and Improve Your Poker, all did roughly the same in sales in 2001. But last year, the book on pot-limit and no-limit outsold the other two combined. This year, especially since the World Series of Poker, sales of it have gone through the roof.
5).....and others

Then Linda Johnson wont shut up about her CardPlayer cruises

Sexton always shilling for WPT and PartyPoker

And others shill as well.

I know it is their magazine and they can push whatever they want, but I find it annoying and a conflict of interest.

And whats with Daniel Negreanu always pushing UltimateBet (J/K )

Let me stress, I do not mind the ads at all, much like maxim they can have 25 ads for every article for all I care. They should however separate the two, not slip an ad into the middle of the columns

Agreed, I buy magazines for information, not advertising. If the information (articles, columns) are tainted or just full of plugs then the publication has no value to me.

makes me appreciate the quality articles all the more. then i'm ready for a little break (like reading the comics in the newspaper) when i get to the sexton or hellmuth articles.

i don't see every issue but i thought i would point out that i don't recall sklansky shilling for his books in his articles. this is most impressive when he could easily slip in a line about 'see my GREAT GREAT read Theory of POker for a more detailed explanation of pot-odds....' etc etc. maybe he has done that at some point in the past...but for some reason i really doubt it.

and i agree that the various plugs are highly unprofessional.
i wouldn't mind if they had quick italisized bio's at the end where they could plug their stuff AFTER the article is completed.
such as: Phil Hellmuth is a 9-time bracelet winner at the WSOP and is the youngest champion ever. His new book PPLTP is available from Joe Shmoe publishing or through his website at philhellmuth.com.
just keep the stuff out of the articles-proper.
