Default Resteal attempt when BB is sitting out

I was playing in a $55 2 table on Stars today and it was down to the final 6. I had 2800 in chips and blinds are 200-400 with 25 dollar ante (no one is really terribly shortstacked, maybe the lowest has 2500 or so)....and Im in the Small blind with J5o. We have the interesting situation that the BB, who is a big stack, is sitting out. So this guy who is second to act raises to 800 (Which is exactly what you can get away with when the BB is sitting out, since they arent able to call for 400 more).
I went allin from the SB with J5o (although the cards dont really matter, I just felt the chances of this guy folding were too great, and me winning a 1550 pot, adding more than 50% to my stack, and hey maybe Ill win the hand if he calls too) The guy who raised to 800 had basically the exact same amount of chips as me.....if he called my allin for 2000 more hed have about 100 in chips left afterwards.
Any comments? Does it sound ok, or a bit too exotic?

I like it. You have to take some risk to get ahead in poker as in life.
