Default Dial up

Is there any need to have more than dialup for poker? All the sites sends you is small text lines right? There wouldn't be any need for speed or would there? Anyone play poker on just dial up?

It's more a matter of reliability than speed. You are correct that dialup has adequate badwidth for online poker, unless you are playing 20 tables, or trying to download large graphic files (porn) while playing poker. However, broadband connections are usually less prone to unexpected disconnects than diaulup. Of course, reliability of dialup depends on the ISP, the quality of the phone lines, and how well your modem works, so, if you have a good ISP, good phone lines and a good modem, disconnects may not be a problem. OTOH, in some areas, low speed DSL doesn't cost much more than dialup, is still considerably faster, and doesn't tie up your phone line when your online.

I play poker using dial-up and it works fine the vast majority of the time.

The problem with dial-up is that it can make it difficult to keep your computer software up to date. You have to stay on top of Microsoft updates, and find an alternative way to get Service Packs.

Dial-up is the only thing available where I live. Even with 10 tables open it is only using about 50% of the bandwidth.

Agreed that which ISP can make a difference in stability. I had one that caused me quite a few disconnects but the local one I’m using now rarely has problems.

i'm sure it's functional, but i would have concerns about reliability as well.
