Default $55 turbo - is this gigabet\'s play?

i was kinda fooling and not caring, but after the play it seemed to make some sense.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t150 (6 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

saw flop|<font color="#C00000">saw showdown</font>

Button (t1155)
<font color="#C00000">Hero (t1740)</font>
BB (t3545)
UTG (t4520)
MP (t2210)
<font color="#C00000">CO (t330)</font>

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">CO raises to t330</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to t1740</font>

unless BB wakes up with a monster i'm paying 255 to win 555. on the same note, if i lose that 255 it's not really a big difference to me. i'm still in push/fold territory with the blinds going up within a minute. however if i can win those extra chips i'll have some more money to play around with and maybe have enough to make 1 move. i kind of see what he's saying... i probably horribly misapplied it, but i think i'm further along my way to understanding.

the fact that i had q3 just made me have to do it here

Obviously you're unfamiliar with the theory. Looks to be the move housenuts; good application.

Nope.

I guess I should list some reasons, even though they are both apparent and have been repeated over and over in similar posts that pop up about once a month.

Gig has the table covered, so he's not gone if someone wakes up with a monster (btw, he's going to get called far far far far far far far less in a $1065 than you will in a $55 stars. Far less.).

Gig will use those chips more effectively than you. He will, I promise.

Even if you win the hand and pick up the blinds, you still aren't in a position to control the table. Not by a long shot. There will still be 2 much bigger stacks and an even stack.

Showing down this hand is bad for your bubble image. While it's not terribly significant, it can hurt. Everybody in Gig's game already knew that he makes the same play with Q3 and AA. It doesn't do [censored] to his image, except maybe get him more action in future games when he plays aces that way.

I guess it was similar in that you both had a red queen in your hand...

Apply this more useful post to you., not that post to your game. It will be much more helpful.

If the BB will call with any 2, then pushing is basically break even (just very slightly positive). However, if BB will fold even just a little, the move becomes profitable; for example, if he folds 10% of hands your equity goes up from 28% to 31%.

Another approach might be to stop and go.

Just don't try and make the 'gigabet play'. He says, and others posters have echoed, that so many people will misapply it. You have as well. Just don't do it.

Why are we making gigabet plays at the 55s?

I've decided for myself that for the time being it is a waste of time to think more about the "Gigabet play". I guess it is the same for most posters here.

i personally like the gigabet dilemma, but this really isn't the same. this is just you taking a stab at a pot getting decent pot odds, but you run the risk of BB having a monster. someone mentioned this screws up your table image, and for that alone it's not worth the risk, even if you get lucky enough to win. this is FPS.
