Default A comment on metrosexuality

Perhaps this belongs in the Math, Science, Philosophy forum, but I felt that OOT would be best to answer it.

Metrosexuals are people who, in essenece, focus on form rather than function. They may wear uncomfortable, inconvenient clothes rather than more practical clothing in order to, in their minds, be more attractive. They have often been described as "straight guys who act gay," but I think there's more to it than that.

In the true hunter/gatherer sense, men are intended to be more practical in their attire. I ask, are metrosexuals giving up their role as men in order to accept a more feminine, more formal role, or, are they rather accepting the necessity of form as a way to attract the opposite sex for matters of procreation?

Well that's kind of what I'm asking. Are they taking on more feminine qualities in order to attract women, or do they feel that there is some trend in modern western society that forces them to?

I think you've got an awfully narrow and retarded definition of metrosexual.

Dressing nice != uncomfortable.

Dragging a "hunter/gatherer" analogy into 2005, where the people who are the most apt providers are likely those dressed the best, just fails totally.

As someone who is far from "metro", based on people I know, I would say its almost always the latter. This is obviously an oversimplification, however, and this creates some problems. But in an "either/or" sense my answer definantly stands.

how about it just feels good to dress well. it might be even more uncomfortable to metrosexuals to be seen in public with clothes that satisfy their needs of relaxation than clothes that make them appear classy.

this comes from a guy who's worn the same pajama pants for four days in a row. GOD I love college.

I'm not sure I agree with your assesment of metrosexuals. I've been accused of being one, once or twice, for the simple fact I like nice clothes. Not uncomfortable clothes, or clothes that stand out in some way, just nice, well-worth-the-money style clothes.

I just think some men like to look better than your average frat boy. Nothing wrong with it.

And I wouldn't get those facials if my girlfriend didn't pay for 'em, dammit.
