Default WHat was the deal with the WSOP no-deal

I hear Moneymaker offered a 50-50 split of prize $$$ to Sam when he had a 3-1 chip lead. I assumed this means he offered an even distribution based on chips, but it doesn't seem so? First, Did he offer Sam a straight 50-50 chop? Second, if he did, who the hell does this guy think he is to turn him down? If a person with no poker skills whatsoever offered Phil Hellmuth 50-50 when Phil was down 3-1, phil woulf take it in a heartbeat! If this story is true, this is one of the most arrogant and imbecilic things I have ever heard in poker. What was the real deal?
