Default Addon or not

Is it every a good idea not to add on. Save the money if you are top 10 after hour??

if im twice above average at break I usually dont add on.

i believed in playing as cheaply as possible until i played a live rebuy tournament in A.C. and EVERYONE was spending the money.

approach a rebuy this way: you expect to spend 3x the buy-in.

in the 45k on stars, i won't take the addon if i'm like 25k+... and even then i still take it like half the time.

You can do that? It used to be you couldn't addon if you had more than 20k.

Greg Raymer did some calculations and said you should addon unless you have some silly percentage of the total chips in play. You will NEVER get there in one of the online tournaments.

Maybe his post is somewhere in the archives.

yea you can addon at any point.. and i didnt know about that.. if you find it (sorry i'm lazy) i'd like to see it.

I always take the add-on, seems obligatpry to me.

But then I play the whole rebuy period a lot different than other people on the forum, on the rare occasions that I play rebuys.

His conclusion was that you should add-on unless you have a "money stack" which is an average stack once in the money.

That would be around 1.2 million. Good luck getting that the first hour.

1.2 million is the average stack at the final table... not one that just got in the money.
