Default JJ UTG, very first hand of a home STT

$50 home STT. I don't know any of the players there, except that I assume most of the players there are rather good (the host, who cracked the top 200 in this year's WSOP Main Event, has an extensive network of good players who come to his games).

1500 starting chips, blinds are at 25-50.

First hand of the tournament, I'm UTG with J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Not knowing anyone at the table, I decide to start cautiously, open-limping. Folds to the CO, who raises to 150. I'm the only caller.

Flop comes: 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

I come firing out with a pot-sized bet of 300, which is instantly called. The turn brings a 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I check. Villain thinks for about a minute, and pushes all-in for his remaining 900 or so.

What's the play here, and what is the likely range for villain? Assume no reads other than a belief that villain is likely a solid player who is likely capable of a wide variety of plays on every street.

10 players 5/3/2 payout?

i'd probably call. 88-TT is less likely to raise than QQ-AA, but QQ+ can also afford to give a free card on the turn, where 88-TT cannot. plus all of the misc. total whiff hands.

i dunno... it's close. i'd have a hard time folding and probably wouldn't.

It's always annoying to bust early in a home game, but I call this. I think he has A high in the hole, and if he has queens, kings or aces so be it.

Early exits in home games really do suck.

With that said, I cannot lay this down. I think you are ahead most of the time and would expect to see 88-TT or AK/AQ.

Was he acting quite uncertain? If so, fold.
