Default STEPS etc buy-ins refunded?

I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to get an Aussie Step 6 game started. I'm worried that if I don't get this game in I will lose my buy-in money. A lot of people have said I will get a refund if the offer expires and I haven't used my freeroll. I e-mailed Party and got this reply:

Dear XXX,

Thank you for contacting us.

Congratulations! on winning a free entry into Aussie Step 6 tournament which is
worth $1800/$120.

We see that you have played a Aussie Step 5 - NL ($1000/$80) and were
placed third in the tournament. Hence, you have received this free entry.

A Free Roll is a complimentary entry to a tournament, which would normally
demand a cash buy-in amount and entry fee.

We see that you are registered for the tournament. We assure you that you will
be able to use the free entry before the promotion ends. We will not be able to
refund the buy-in amount. We suggest you to try registering for the tournaments
at high traffic times.

So now I'm confused. Are they lying to me?

I played WSOP Steps only with the intention of having them refunded. All of my freerolls were refunded after the steps ended. I would call them to make sure they will be refunded.

The last time I had trouble with their customer service I reminded them of how much rake I've paid and they seemed to be more helpful in taking care of the problem.

When do the Aussie steps end?

I might play with the intention of collecting some freerolls.

lol, yeah. I played my Step 5 on a Saturday night/Sunday morning. 7-8 people there for like 2 hours. I was multi-tabling on Empire/Eurobet whilst also trying to get the players to stay by amusing them with dumb jokes. I guess it was worth it!

damnit. that's the only one i've even *heard* of running last week.

i've got 3 step 5s and 4 step 4s now. i guess i won't be that upset if/when they just do refunds.

as for when they do the refunds, they do them pretty promptly after they stop running the steps, which is right around when they close qualifications for their trips, which is right around when the trip is. prolly some time in january or something.
