He was calling me acting like he had a Jack with a bad kicker, that's what I put him on.

I didn't want to push him all the way out because I felt I could grab half his stack if a jack didn't fall.

I believe him. You think I should have still called though?

And you think that would have gotten this guy out? What should I bet? All in?

Remember that you don't know that the J is falling on the turn. Your goal is to let him make a mistake and make his correct play be to give you this pot. It's not to push him out because if he calls an overbet here, you make money in the long run.

What do you mean, "what did I do wrong"? You extracted value when you likely had the best hand and then folded when you likely had the worst hand. I don't understand what there is to question here.

Next time, don't let the board pair twice...?

Bet more on the turn. "Dropping" your bet on the turn suggests to him that you ARE bluffing, or at the very least giving him odds to catch whatever else he might need to.

By dropping I mean not keeping your bet in line percentage wise with what you have been betting. If you are 3/4 or potting it on the flop, you must do the same on the turn unless your hand is THAT strong. With him check/calling the flop, he has paired or better and you want him out if he's going to check/call, or you want him to risk everything.
