Default Computer Minimums

I am currently computerless. I am looking for a cheap PC that can run poker clients and do word processing. I want to spend as little money as possible.

Will this machine do? What, if any problems will I encounter?

Dell Dimension Dekstop with Intel pentium II 450 mhz, 384 megs memory, 18 gig drive, cd rom, zip drive, network card, sound card, 17 " crt monitor, keyboard, mouse, windows XP Pro SP2, microsoft office

The 450 mhz processor worries me.

Input?

Yeah, I'd like to.

Nothing crazy.

exactly what is your budget?

if you pay more than $50 for that PC, you're probably getting ripped off. my suggestion is to find a used CRT that does 1600x1200 (allows multi-tabling w/o overlap) for about $30, and another $200 on a new computer, which you can find through deals on fatwallet.com or slickdeals.

this will actually be a useful computer, and 3 sign up bonuses will pay for it.

That computer is 80$.

My budget for online poker is about 400 dollars, including any deposits. The less i spend on a comp, the more I can deposit and start whoring.

hmm..splitting up that $400 into a computer vs. BR is actually an interesting question.

Now, you don't actually need that much money to go BW'ing. you can hit up the casino.net/sportingbet/total poker sites for $50 each, easy. call it $100 for a starting BR. after these $300 in bonuses, you should have about $400. throw in a couple easy casino bonuses, and the betfred/sports interaction bonuses, and you'll have $700 easy. now, you have enough to hit up all the Party/other deposit bonuses.

so, I think taking $300 of your $400 to buy a new computer is a good way to go. consider that this computer can be used for other things besides poker, and will last you for a couple years - you might be surprised how much you can buy for $250 (+ $50 monitor) - this is a good route

Well you have a few options. First off, if you are not going to do any heavy gaming, then you dont need that powerful of a computer. Any pentium 4 or celeron will work fine.

Got a monitor already? If not you can find CRT's for dirt cheap. I see people post old monitors on craigslist.com all the time.

So you can basically order a brand new dell for $300 if you get it stripped down and without a monitor.

If not, try to find someone on ebay selling a computer out there. Try to buy a brand name machine like Dell, HP or Compaq. I bet there are tons of machines on there built with just basic parts, so you are not sure exactly what is inside them. However if you find an ebay seller auctioning his own line of built machines, and his positive feedback is through the roof, then purchase off him.

You can easily find a working, decent speed machine between 200-300. Just make sure it has a lot of RAM, (512 mb should be required, 256 mb if you want to stretch it thin).

Video card, sound card, cd-rom, anything on that should be fine.
