Default \"That kind of element\"

When asked if Wynn would ever have a bad beat jackpot, one dealer voiced an opinion that they would never have one because they don't want to attract that kind of element.

Do BBJs really attract high numbers of undesirable poker element? And what kind/why?

my guess is that it would attract a lot more locals. It is the type of casino that wants tourists to come in, play poker and then drop more money on table games/slots on the way out. with more seats filled with locals, this wont happen.

She was referring to "jackpot chasers." They believe that every poker hand should be played so that the pot gets up to the minimum pot size for a jackpot, then checked to the river. And god help you if you BET into a pot when you could have CHECKED, the bitter sneers will cut right through you. They're also usually very bitchy locals who are constantly trying to get comps, and nitpicking every rule even when they don't have a hand.

There are several rooms around town who specifically don't have jackpots, comps etc to keep the nitty locals out. The action at those rooms is often considerably better than rooms who do cater to the locals.

This is absolutelyt accurate. In Phoenix, I was playing in a BBJ table, 4-8 limit, and man, I was running the table. I had only cashed in for 80 bucks because I had promised my wife I'd be home 30 minutes from the minute I sat down. Well near the end of the half hour, I was up over 200.00 becasue of some really well timed hands and kill pots.
I was actually asked to leave the table, due to the fact that it was a BBJ table and I was not playing according to the "rules" the others were playing by (not building the pot and then checking it down). The dealer actually stopped dealing and called the floor over and half the table asked me to kindly leave. I didn't argue too much, this was the tail end of a 14 hour session anyway, but I did explain to the brush that my 4 days a week of 14-18 hour 6-12 and 10-20 were moving down the road to a competitors location. I would rather not play in a BBJ table for this reason.
(In defense of the players at the table, the BBJ was at an Arizona record setting high of over 230,000)

This is an aspect of Vegas I have not seen discussed here. What rooms (and levels) are full of nitty locals

I think the mini-blind structures and high hand jackpots at Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo draw tight locals.

Mandalay Bay has a good enough reputation here that I am guessing my experience there was the background signal, and normally there are enough LA tourists splashing around to make MB worthwhile.

Ugh...it's stories like these that keep me out of the casinos and keep me playing online.

There is nothing more disgusting than the tight-arsed BBJ playing locals, demanding their comps and drinks and then taking over games and ruining them. Good for Wynn. I hope the local nits never see the place.
