Default Researching the New Orleans timeline.

I'm currently conducting research on the New Orleans timeline.

So far the best article I've found is here:

CIVIL ENGINEERING MAGAZINE
http://www.pubs.asce.org/ceonline/ce.../0603feat.html

My dad told me that FEMA had a bunch of supplies set up east of New Orleans. However, since the hurricane moved east at the last minute, the supplies got hit hard by the hurricane. However, I am unable to find info on this.

Article on the corps talking about funding vs. levee breaking.

PLEASE DO NOT POST A POLITICALLY CHARGED LINK. THIS MEANS NO DAILYKOS OR SIMILAR SITES (includes 90% of NYT's articles right now). I AM SIMPLY LOOKING FOR A HISTORICAL TIMELINE. I WANT THE DRY HARD FACTS.

If you clutter this thread with political blather I will ignore you. For those that help conduct the research, thankyou very much.

Good on ya

If I wasn't so lazy I might try and help. It's good to see some one try and figure out what happened, if any one is to blame etc. rather than search for 'facts' that support whatever they believe in/want to believe in (I'm attacking people accross the board here, not from any one political group)

Aplogies if this was too political, basically I'm saying good on ya and I am anticipating your results

Wacki,

Below are a number of websites that have current information and basic information and prediction information etc. It is a lot of information and not all directly related to 'New Orleans timeline' but offers much insight to all this. In addition many of these sites and their related links will have good information in the future when more is known about what occurred.

The first link has a great many additional links. With also some commentary about important human parameters and agency response.

Tropical storm - Hurricane Katrina

NOAA - Hurricane prediction

NOAA- general

USGS

USGS on Hurricanes

NOAA standard Hurricane pamphlet

Disaster news network

USGS: Erosion in Louisiana - hurricanes

More USGS Stuff

Hope this helps some.

This blog post by Dr. Jeff Masters entitled "Katrina--costliest hurricane ever?" at 7:18AM on Saturday 8-27 is a pretty good piece for the timeline. I included all the commments as some of them are pretty specific and dire.

Weather Underground is just a bunch of weather junkies. Pretty apolitical.
