Experiences with New York Cares in NYC?

I want to get involved in some volunteer work and signed up with New York Cares. They seem to be an umbrella organization with all kinds of volunteer activities and projects going on every day.

Has anyone worked with them? Any thoughts?

To get started I guess you have to go through a one-hour orientation, after which you can do the volunteer activities. Mine is Thursday at 6:00 PM, just in case anyone wants to combine volunteer work with the fabulous opportunity to meet up with me.

I don't know about NYC, but in general City Cares/Hands On is great. They are part of the Hands On Network. Great organization. I have volunteered through Hands On Atlanta and Hands On San Francisco.

I did this a few years back; from 02-03. Sorta mehish; I painted a bench at a school on 138th.
